I receive a fair number of quotation requests for wedding photography. Usually people have taken the time to check out my site and are requesting for actual day shooting, as that really is my specialty when it comes to weddings. I have been shooting in documentary fashion since 2008, and never looked back to shoot in some other style. I guess when you do something for so long, it becomes like an extension of your personality. You really cant change it either, at least not in a heartbeat.
Cheap wedding photography?
At times I get this odd request of customers who are on a tight budget and are trying to figure out a way to save money here and there. Usually such emails have something along the lines of “cheap photography”, “cheapest package” & “best price”.
As in the project management triangle, my services have three options.
Now please go ahead and pick any two. Oh, and if you prefer to have it cheap and good, be prepared to wait until I have free moment from paying customers.
It is really disheartening not only as a wedding photographer, but also generally to hear when one do not value their memories more than that. You would not go to a ring shop and ask for the cheapest possible option, would you? They might give you a plastic ring and point your way towards the exit 🙂 If you want your wedding day photography done cheap, you could always ask a friend or relative to snap some shots with Instagram as they are there anyway (and regret this possibly for a lifetime).
Over the years I’ve been ranting about budgets and how the money is spent on the actual day. I like to keep thing simple, and divide the money into two sets. The first set of money is spent on “consumables”, things that are only for the day. This would include food & drinks, decorations, flowers, ice sculptures, musicians, special cars, wedding favours and so on. The second set is used for things that are not only for the day, but you could also see them as investment for the future. This would include rings, wedding dress (if not rented) and photographs. It is very hard to put a price on your memories, but I strongly encourage to spend some money on quality photography. Me and my past clients can guarantee that you will not regret that decision.
